In an interview with MSNBC, Condoleezza Rice defended President Trump after a poll declared that 57% of Americans think he is a racist.“You hear this in the press over and over and over again,” Rice said to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace.
“It’s possible that almost 6 in 10 people believe Trump is truly a racist, but it’s also possible that those people just don’t like Trump at all and are willing to agree to any and every very negative thing a pollster asks about him,” said Wallace.
“As Jenn rightly pointed out, the number of people who say Trump is a racist is broadly consistent with the number of people who disapprove of Trump’s performance in office, who say he’s interfered with the Russia investigation and who believe the women alleging Trump sexually harassed them,” said Wallace.
Rice had the perfect response. “We as a country have become a country of grievants. We have become a country that ‘my grievance is superior to your grievance.’ And that’s not just in the last year. That’s over the last several years. So, everybody needs to look in the mirror and say, ‘Why are divisions so deep and what part am I playing in making those divisions deep?’” said Rice.
“I have met the president. I can’t know his heart, but I do know this is somebody who treated me very well when we met. I think he believes he’s doing what’s right for the country,” said Rice. Check out the video below.
